Lear Corporation from Southfield, Michigan, United States, announced it has successfully developed a car seat which is called The Evolution Seat. This seat weighs 11.5 pounds lighter per unit compared to those still using the conventional structure without sacrificing strength and comfort.
Terrible, Lear was also able to develop new automotive fabric material called Eco Fabric Lear. This material is 100 percent derived from plastic bottles and recycled polyester fabric. The company plans to launch this seat in Asia next year.
In this new seat, Lear combines seven patented technologies developed by them, namely:
1. Lear Structure ECO / EVO. Mechanisms and rails together until its weight down to 30 percent compared with conventional seats. Also reduce the use of exotic materials.
2. Dynamic Environmental Comfort System (DECS). Seat system layers (multilayer). This technology is already used on the Ford Fusion Hybrid 2010. This section reduces the weight to 50 percent. The use of organic materials is reduced to 70 cent.
3. Lear ECO Padding. Wrap the seat of polyurethane and cork is a material that can be recycled and updated. Material is a soft wood fiber that grows quickly.
4. Pro Tec Plus. Active hip protector system can reduce the risk of a hip injury, to 43 percent and meet global safety regulation standards. Currently, this technology is only used on the Cadillac CTS and Honda Accord.
5. Lear EVO Mini recliner. Rests so lightly, compare the strength and weight are getting stronger. 30 percent lighter and space-saving 50 percent compared with conventional seats.
6. Soyfoam. Foam is made from soybeans, Ford has been using it on the Mustang since 2008.
7. Expandend Recyclable Polypropylene (EPP). Lightweight materials to replace the foam from oil and 100 percent recyclable. EPP was first introduced in 2002 for the Audi A2.
